SPCA: Central Islip man neglected dogs, left wounds untreated
Officials say a Central Islip man has been charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty.
Suffolk County SPCA detectives responded to a home on Nagle Lane Wednesday to investigate an anonymous tip.
Detectives say they found a total of 11 dogs, seven of which were confined to dirty crates and with no access to food or water.
In addition, several dogs were found to be emaciated and one dog was suffering from untreated open wounds and required life-saving surgery.
A search warrant was executed on the house and 11 dogs and one deceased dog were removed from the home and transported to an emergency animal hospital.
Police arrested Peter Watson, 55, and charged him with multiple counts of animal cruelty by Suffolk County SPCA for failure to provide proper sustenance and medical care to his dogs.
While conducting the search warrant, a felony amount of cocaine was found at the premises resulting in Watson being rearrested by Suffolk County police and taken into custody.
Watson was arraigned and released.
All of the dogs have been signed over to Islip Animal Shelter.
