2 injured when fire pit burns out of control in Copiague

Two people were injured, one seriously, when an outdoor fire pit burned out of control in Copiague.

Police say it happened just after 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the backyard of a home on Simmons Street.

One person had to be airlifted to the hospital with serious burns.

The other person was also taken to the hospital with burn injuries.

It's unclear what caused that fire to spread out of control.
