Hempstead woman accused of leaving 1-year-old in cold truck

A Hempstead woman is accused of leaving her 1-year-old niece alone in the backseat of a cold pickup truck.

Cinthia Hernandez-Munguia, 25, was arrested Thursday after someone reported that they saw a girl left alone in a 2000 Nissan in the parking lot of Buy Buy Baby in Garden City.

Nassau police say it was 24 degrees outside at the time.

The district attorney told the judge that the baby was left in the truck for more than 20 minutes in the extremely frigid conditions.

Hernandez-Munguia is charged with endangering the welfare of a child. She was arraigned and released by the judge Friday.

Her niece was unharmed in the incident and is in the care of another family member.
