A Connecticut lawmaker is reacting to the TRACED Act, a bill approved by the House of Representatives to help curb robocalls.

Those in violation would be hit with fines up to $10,000 per call. The bill would also require companies to offer robocall blocking features for free.

"Blocking robocalls ought to be everyone's right," said Sen. Richard Blumenthal. "That's the purpose of the bill that now comes to the Senate after passage in the House, and I will fight for it because these unwanted, intrusive, sometimes fraudulent calls are really invading people’s privacy and sometimes taking their money."

Connecticut residents received more than 542 million robocalls this year.
