Thrive NYC is linking up with the New York Public Library to launch a new program called 'Spaces to Thrive.'
First lady Chirlane McCray says New Yorkers can attend mental health workshops on topics like suicide prevention and trauma at several public libraries across the city, including Bronx Library Center.
In addition, there will be dedicated bookshelves with fiction and non-fiction books addressing mental health concerns. This is a place where McCray says people can come to gather, talk about mental health, and help end the stigma of mental health. Books were specifically selected by the New York Public Library and Thrive NYC and eventually will be offered in multiple languages.
The city says one of their goals is to open a dialogue on mental health in a safe place.
According to statistics from Thrive NYC, mental health disorders affect 1 in 5 New Yorkers.
