An accident shut down Nicolls Road in both directions at Route 347 in Stony Brook Wednesday afternoon.
Police say three vehicles were involved in the crash at 1:30 p.m., where 23-year-old Deanna Hermida was driving north on Nicolls Road, when she hit into 26-year-old Mariana Debbe, who was heading west on Route 347 and making left onto Nicolls.
Debbe's Honda then crashed into 63-year-old Jose Salas, who was driving east on Route 347.
Debbe was taken to Stony Brook Hospital with serious injuries.
People who live in the area of the intersection say cars often go too fast through it. Some try to avoid the spot altogether if possible.
"I stay away from it, it's always congested and people drive really crazy," says Kelly Ramirez, of Centereach.
Detectives are investigating the crash, and ask anyone with information to call the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652.
