Assemblyman LiPetri forms exploratory committee for 2020 congressional run

Posted: Updated:

Assemblyman Mike LiPetri announced on Twitter Monday that he is looking at the possibility of running for Congress in 2020.

The Republican says he's forming an exploratory committee to "determine how I can best continue to serve the residents of the south shore of Long Island."

Islip Town Councilwoman Trish Bergin Weichbrodt announced she intends to run for Congress last week.

It comes after longtime incumbent Rep. Pete King announced he won't seek reelection in 2020.
