Sources: Nassau DA executes search warrant at Hempstead Town Hall

Sources at Hempstead Town Hall tell News 12 the Nassau DA's Public Corruption Bureau executed a search warrant Monday.
It happened at the town's Building Department.
News 12 is told digital files were seized from the town's IT Department.
The Hempstead Town Building Department has come under scrutiny for the way in which it assessed damage to homes after Superstorm Sandy.
FEMA says the department's procedural errors could prevent homeowners from getting proper flood insurance and may have left many out of compliance with FEMA requirements.
Town Supervisor Laura Gillen, who is trailing in her re-election bid but has not yet conceded while absentee ballots are counted, has called for a top-to-bottom overhaul of the department.
In September, and in an unrelated incident, the department's Deputy Commissioner John Novello was arrested and charged with stealing thousands of dollars from the Cedarhurst Republican Committee.
Town officials say federal investigators are also looking into agreements between the town and a vendor at the Malibu beach facility and other town properties.
A spokesperson for the DA's office declined to comment.
