Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim faced hundreds of members of a faith-based advocacy group Monday night who say the city's schools need to improve.

People with Faith Acts for Education wanted to remind the newly re-elected mayor about their concerns over education in Bridgeport.

Faith Acts is calling for a guaranteed increase of $2 million a year in local education funding, as well as increased exposure to legislators in Hartford.

Mayor Ganim told News 12 that "after the first of the year, we are going to begin a budget process." He added he didn't know what the numbers are.

As for the protesters, they are waiting for change.

"When we get new leadership or inspire our leadership to care about our children, then we will make the changes we need to see," said Julie Hajducky of Bridgeport.

They're also asking for a program to make college free for students from Bridgeport.
