Police say a man was caught on camera trying to steal a gold chain from the neck of an 18-year-old woman in Concourse Village last Monday.

The incident happened inside a residential building on Sherman Avenue and East 167th Street around 4 p.m.

Police say the man shared an elevator ride with the victim, and got off on the floor below her stop. They say he then took the stairs, waited for her to exit the elevator and tried to steal the gold chain.

Police say he got away with a gold pendant, but not the chain itself. They say the victim suffered from a deep cut to her neck
