21-year-old critically hurt in West Islip crash

A West Islip man was critically injured when his car slammed into a concrete pillar under a Sunrise Highway overpass.
It happened around 3 a.m. on Udall Road in West Islip.
The 21-year-old driver, identified as Brandon Johnson, was heading north when he lost control of the Dodge Charger and slammed into the pillar.
He was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he's listed in critical but stable condition.
The area where the crash happened was littered with car parts, including a section of the windshield, a rear-view mirror, and the car's center console. Crews were later seen removing the debris.
"You look at the car, it's really bad. You'd think the person didn't survive," said one passerby.
It's not clear why the driver lost control of the vehicle. Investigators say he was alone in the car and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call the Suffolk Police Department's Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
