A pedestrian has died after being struck by a pickup truck in Sayville.

Police say Shawn Devlin, of Mastic Beach, was struck just before 5:30 a.m. on Sunrise Highway westbound by exit 50.

According to police, Devlin was driving a pickup truck on the on-ramp of the highway between Broadway and Lincoln Avenue when his vehicle experienced mechanical issues. They say he was struck after pulling his vehicle over by a Jeep driven by John Annibell, 58, of Holtsville. Annibell was not injured.

Devlin, 31, was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The incident forced all lanes to shut down during the busy rush hour. They have since been reopened.
