Veterans are pitching in to help fellow veterans make improvements at a VFW post in Brentwood.
The American Patriots Heroes Fund is helping make the repairs at Post 6431. The building dates back to the 1940s, and its post commander says it needs a new roof, electrical updates and a new water heater.
"It's important because when they come and they help out, that makes us know that we gotta keep on moving forward," says Sabrina Lacy. "We can't sit idle, and we have a purpose. We have a purpose because they might have to go back out there again, and if they do, we're here for them."
The veterans say they are planning to get a lot of work done, and they say Sunday's efforts are just the beginning.
