State police and the Department of Transportation have teamed up to kick off "Operation Hard Hat."

Troopers will be enforcing the state's "Move Over" law, which requires drivers to slow down and change lanes when approaching emergency and highway maintenance vehicles with flashing lights.

Officials say statewide 63 DOT workers have been injured on the job so far this year. They say about one-third have been serious injuries.

Drivers who violate the "Move Over" law in Nassau County face a $250 fine and two points on their license.
