NYPD: Pair robs elderly man of cash, cellphone on 172nd Street in Soundview

Police are searching for two men who they say robbed an elderly man at gunpoint in Soundview.
News 12 is told the suspects got away with the victim’s cash and cellphone during the robbery on Oct. 27 around 6 a.m. while the victim was walking home.
The NYPD released surveillance video showing a man going through the 68-year-old victim’s pockets. At one point, the suspect stops to look around and then continues to go through his clothes, all while the victim stands there.
The victim told police that two men approached him while he was on 172nd Street near Commonwealth Avenue. News 12 is told one of the suspects pulled out a gun and demanded money, holding him against a bodega gate. That’s when he starts to rummage through the victim’s pockets and takes his wallet and cellphone, before the duo walk away.
The victim, Jose, described the moment he was robbed at gunpoint while walking home from work to News 12.
"One of the guys tells the other one that I don't have anything on and they were about to leave. That's when he keeps digging in my jacket and found my cellphone and wallet," says Jose. "They were leaving and I yelled give me back my papers inside my wallet. He took out 40 bucks and then threw my wallet on the floor."
Jose says he is happy to be alive, but that this is not the first time he has been robbed. He tells News 12 he was once robbed with a knife for his necklace and another time with a gun aimed at his head.
"This is why I stood like this, because I know the less movement I make, there's a less chance I'll get hurt," says Jose.
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
