Police: Thieves ransack North Bellmore home, steal ashes of tenant’s husband

The North Bellmore home of an 82 year-old woman was burglarized, and police say the thieves took a box containing the ashes of her late husband.

The theft happened at a home on Pea Pond Road. Police say an apartment inside the home was broken into last Tuesday at 12:45 p.m.

News 12 was told when the 82-year-old female tenant came home, she found her living room and bedroom had been ransacked. She says her wallet and a box containing her late husband's ashes were gone.

Police describe the urn as rectangular in shape and gold in color.

Police are asked anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
