Teen files lawsuit against city, NYPD over brawl at Jay Street-MetroTech station
One of the teens arrested at the Jay Street-MetroTech station during a wild subway brawl with police is suing the NYPD.
Benjamin Marshall, along with his family also, filed a notice of claim against the NYPD for $5 million in damages after they say the teen was punched in the head by an officer and slammed to the ground at the Jay Street-MetroTech subway station.
The 15-year-old appeared in court Wednesday for the first time since the incident and his lawyer tells News 12 that his case has been adjourned until Friday for further investigation.
Video soon surfaced over the weekend showing a violent clash between officers in the 84 Precinct and a group of teens.
However, the NYPD claims several individuals were resisting arrest, one even attacking officers.
The viral video gained the attention of Borough President Eric Adams who commented on what appeared to be a clip of an NYPD officer punching one of the teens.
Adams took to Twitter to write, "All cops in our city, wherever they police, should wear body cameras. We would not have known what happened at Jay Street-MetroTech if video was not shown, so we should not have state troopers in the subway system that are not willing to wear body cameras."
