Amityville mulls code change to restrict Airbnb, short-term rentals

There's a new move to restrict short-term rentals, like those listed on Airbnb, in Amityville.
Officials in Amityville held a public hearing Monday night at Amityville Village Hall on a proposal to restrict the rentals.
Some rooms in Amityville are renting from $40 a night to $400 for a one-week stay for an entire home rental.
Neighbors have complained of quality of life issues like overflowing garbage and cars being parked on their front lawns.
Under the proposed law, those who want to rent out their homes must first get a short-term rental permit and have the homes be inspected by the village.
The person listing the home or apartment would be fined up to $1,000 on the first offense and $2,000 on the second offense.
