Newsday: LIRR running late with next gen train cars
The Long Island Rail Road is running late with its next generation of train cars.

The railroad's contract for the design and manufacture of M9A fleet is at least six months late, according to Newsday.

The M9A is the successor to the M9 cars, which debuted last month.

The LIRR tells Newsday the delays are due to train manufacturers coming back with prices that are too high, and delivery dates that are too late.

It was expected to award a contract earlier this year.

Now, a contract is not expected until January.
