Police are searching for the person who killed a man in East Patchogue shortly after 5 p.m Monday.
Police responded to a 911 call on Taylor Avenue, and found 25-year-old Tyrell Smith shot on the lawn of a home.
Jasmine Dennis says she was talking with Smith just minutes before he was shot and killed.

Another woman says right before he was shot, Smith told her that he had recently stolen someone's car and some money.  She said he was inside of her house telling her why he took the boy’s money, what he took and that he showed her the money.  She said a few seconds later, someone called him outside, and that’s where he was shot.
Dennis says she knew Smith as a loving father who always wanted the best for everyone.
Detectives are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
