Thousands lace up their sneakers for annual cancer walk

Posted: Updated:

Thousands gathered in Fairfield County Sunday uniting in the fight against breast cancer.

Breast cancer survivors, caregivers and community members took part in a 5K walk.

This is the 26th year the American Cancer Society held the Making Strides Against Cancer Walk in Westport.

More than 7,000 participants laced up their shoes to raise awareness and support loved ones fighting the disease.

Residents from across Fairfield County marched across the finish line honoring those affected — making sure they know they are not alone.

Organizers say they hope to raise at least $300,000.
