Police: 85-year-old man pulled from burning car after crash

A Melville man was pulled from a burning car after a crash in South Huntington Saturday evening.
It happened around 6:45 p.m. on Walt Whitman Road in South Huntington. Police say 85-year-old Phillip Levy was heading north when he lost control of his 2010 Hyundai vehicle and struck the guardrail.
Two police officers were on the scene within minutes, but the car was already on fire. Levy was unconscious in the driver's seat.
Police Officers Joelvy Delacruz and Thomas Phelan sprang into action, safely pulling the man from the burning vehicle with the help of some good Samaritans.
Levy was taken to Plainview Hospital, where he was treated for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
No one else was injured.
It's unclear what caused Levy's vehicle to leave the roadway.
