A Newark woman admitted to scalding a 3-year-old boy with boiling water in 2018.

Patricia Buchan, who lived in the boy's building and was watching him at the time, told the court Friday that the child urinated on the floor in her son's room. She then instructed the boy to take his clothes off, get in the bathtub and then proceeded to pour a pot of boiling water on his lower body.

The 3-year-old suffered second degree burns.

Buchan faces five years in prison.
