Longtime News 12 Long Island anchor Carol Silva revealed Friday that she has been diagnosed with stage four cancer.
Silva said that she learned of the diagnosis two weeks ago. She underwent surgery last week and began Gamma Knife and other medical treatments this week.
“I have all the confidence in the world because we are so lucky to live where there are literally the best doctors in the world – mine happen to be at Northwell,” she said in a video posted on Facebook. “Also because I have the most amazing family behind me, and they just know what I want before I even wanted it.”

Silva expressed admiration for others who have battled cancer and urged anyone who feels there is something wrong in their body to see a doctor and trust your instincts.
“If you think about me, send me some positive thoughts, some positive energy, some prayers – because I take a look at the long list of people who are doing that and that seems to be making a world of difference for me,” she said. “Thank you, think of me, and I’ll be back.”
Silva had said earlier this year that she was stepping away from the anchor desk.
To Carol from everyone at News 12: We love you and are thinking about you and your family.
