A house that was under construction in Freeport collapsed Monday.
The framework of the building on Sportsman Avenue collapsed and tore a hole in the house located next door. News 12 is told no one was injured.
Freeport Village officials say strong winds caused the incident. The collapse also crushed a metal fence around the construction site.
"The sheathing hadn't been put up yet," says Freeport Village Mayor Robert Kennedy. "The high winds pushed the house down into the adjacent house on the property."
Darren Dougan was home when he heard the loud crash. When he looked out his window, he saw the site in ruins.
"All of the sudden you heard snap, snap, snap, snap," says Dougan. "Completely the whole house was crushed over and there were still, like, splinters coming down, two-by-fours falling here and there. It was just wild."
Dougan says the developer started building the two-story house about a week ago. He says he didn't think the site looked structurally sound while it was being built.
Village officials say the developer had the proper permits and inspections to build the home.
