A woman says she was driving with her two children in Stamford when a car slammed into them from behind. Then that driver allegedly took off.
Katilyn Vega says the crash happened at a red light on Route 1 last week.
Surveillance video from a nearby gas station shows Vega getting rear-ended, forcing her to hit the car in front of her.
"My immediate first thought was to turn around and check on the kids," Vega said. "They were both screaming and crying, so their safety was my main concern."
In the video, the woman who crashed into Vega is then seen getting out of the car to check on Vega.
"Sticks her head in the window and just starts saying, 'Is everyone OK? I'm so sorry, is everyone OK?'" Vega says.
Vega says when the woman saw her 1-year-old and 8-month-old both crying, the woman got back in her car and took off.
No one was hurt, but Vega is unable to drive her car and says she does not have collision insurance. She is working with police and sharing the video on social media in hopes the community can help.
"To me this is extremely urgent," she said. "I would like to be able to get to work and pick my kids up, and take care of my family first."
Stamford police say a hit-and-run driver could be charged with evading responsibility. Still, it's almost impossible to find suspects without license plates.
"I have to go through my insurance to get my car fixed, and I need her to do that," Vega said. "So I started being proactive and posted a video on Facebook, just asking the community for their involvement. If they've seen this vehicle or this woman, to reach out to myself or the police."
