The family of a 13-year-old Valley Stream girl who was brutally murdered in 1989 is pleading to keep her killer behind bars.

Robert Golub, who murdered Kelly Ann Tinyes in his home 30 years ago, is serving a 25 years to life sentence for murder. But next month, he has a parole hearing upstate.

“He should never be allowed out of prison for what he did to my daughter,” says Tinyes’ father. "He should stay in prison for life.”

Golub’s trial in 1989 became the first murder case in New York to get a conviction based on DNA evidence.

A large contingent of supporters gathered outside the Department of Corrections office in Hempstead Friday, where Tinyes’ parents and brother were permitted to give a statement to the parole board on the matter.

“Everybody loved Kelly,” says Tinyes’ brother. “We still love Kelly and that's why we are here, and we are going to fight.”

The family gave the parole board a petition signed by more than 4,500 people demanding that Golub stay in prison.

Nassau District Attorney Madeline Singas added her voice in a letter saying, "This defendant is a sadistic and remorseless murderer who must serve the maximum sentence."

News 12 is told that the final decision to keep Golub in prison or give him his freedom will be made about a week after his November hearing.
