LIU's 1st women's hockey team makes history on Long Island

Posted: Updated:

For the first time in school history, Division I women's hockey is at LIU.

The Sharks have an uphill battle. It's a first-year program with brand-new faces -- but they say they all get along. In fact, two of the players are twins -- Renee and Julia Hoffmann.

The Sharks have players from Sweden, Denmark, Canada and China.

The team says they have a bond that will last long after their college days are over.

The LIU women's first ever game is Friday at 3 p.m. against UConn at Iceworks in Syosset.
