Investigators: Elderly man killed wife, self in Brentwood

Posted: Updated:

Investigators say an 84-year-old man shot and killed his wife in Brentwood this morning before shooting himself.

The incident happened just before 9:30 a.m. on Barleau Street.

Authorities say they found a woman fatally shot in her bed. They say they also found her husband, James Paul, in bed with her alive with a gunshot wound. Paul was rushed to the hospital but didn't survive.

Authorities say investigators have determined that Paul shot his 79-year-old wife Rosemary Paul and then shot himself.

Neighbors tell New 12 the couple both had serious health issues. They say James Paul had suffered for years with brain cancer.

Authorities tell News 12 that the family members they've spoken with did not know there was gun inside the home.

Police say they do not believe anyone else had any involvement in the incident.
