Police say a driver was arrested after leading officers on a high-speed chase near Medford for over an hour early Saturday morning.
They say officers tried to pull over Thomas Celeste, 50, for driving erratically on Montauk Highway near the William Floyd Parkway shortly after midnight.
Police say Celeste, instead of stopping, took off. Police used a helicopter to track the van and they later had to deploy spike strips at the corner of Route 112 and Horseblock Road in Medford.
They say Celeste kept going until he was driving on rims, making it to the William Floyd Parkway. That is where he was finally arrested about 90 minutes after the chase began.
No one was injured during the chase.
Celeste is charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, reckless driving and unlawfully fleeing an officer. His bail was set at $150,000 bond, $50,000 cash.
Celeste is due back in court on Thursday.
