Hempstead Councilwoman Erin King Sweeney to drop re-election bid, move out of state

Hempstead Councilwoman Erin King Sweeney is dropping her re-election bid and moving out of state.
The councilwoman from Wantagh issued a statement saying the move was due to her husband's job being relocated.
"My husband's job has been relocated to North Carolina," the statement reads. "Therefore, based upon the needs of my family, I will not be a candidate for re-election to the Town Board. My personal journey over the last year has made me appreciate more than ever the importance of family."
King Sweeney, the daughter of Rep. Peter King, was first appointed to the town board in 2015 before being elected to a full four-year term in 2016.
Her announcement comes less than two months before Election Day.
