Veterans vow to rebuild VFW hall destroyed in fire

Veterans in Lindenhurst are vowing to rebuild after a fire ripped through their Veterans of Foreign Wars hall.
The fire ripped through the Lindenhurst VFW Wednesday morning, destroying decades' worth of memorabilia inside.
Philip Pane was inside the VFW hall cooking when he says a neighbor started screaming that the roof of the building was on fire.
Members quickly came down to the scene to assess the damage. It's a building they say holds pieces of history and conversations about countless war stories.
But not all was lost. Firefighters managed to pull Purple Hearts, portraits of fallen veterans and a number flags from the burning building.
Officials say two firefighters suffered minor injuries but no one else was hurt.
Members say they are sad to see their hall destroyed. They were looking forward to having a party there Saturday.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
