AAA: 35 million Americans to hit the skies, roads amid low gas prices

AAA says as many as 35 million Americans will travel for the Labor Day holiday, which marks the unofficial end to summer.

AAA says as many as 35 million Americans will travel for the Labor Day holiday, which marks the unofficial end to summer.
A record 17.5 million people are expected to fly, but most will be hitting the roadways. Gas prices are at their lowest point in three years.

AAA says the national average is down about 25 cents from last year to $2.59 a gallon. On Long Island, it is nearly $2.74 a gallon.
The Long Island Rail Road will be running extra afternoon trains east of Penn Station to accommodate those heading to the Hamptons. It will operate on a special schedule on Monday.
