26,000 glass cooktops recalled following reports they could turn on by itself

Whirlpool Corporation is recalling more than 26,000 glass cooktops following reports they could turn on by itself, posing burn and fire hazards.

The cooktops were sold between March of 2017 and this month under Whirlpool, Kitchenaid and Jennair Brands.

According to the company, they received 133 reports of incidents involving the cooktops turning on by themselves, resulting in 14 reports of heat damage to nearby items and four reports of items catching on fire.

Two minor burn injuries have been reported.

The cooktops were sold at Home Depot, Lowe's, Best Buy and other stores.

The recall notice does not explain how the cooktops turn themselves on.

Consumers are urged to immediately contact Whirlpool for a free installation of a replacement cooktop.
