Riverhead man accused of killing wife inside home

A Riverhead man was in court Wednesday, accused of killing his wife inside the couple's home.
Hostage negotiators were called to Doris Avenue Tuesday after police got reports of a man carrying a handgun.
Police say 65-year-old Robert Brown barricaded himself inside the house for four hours before police knocked down the door.
Inside, police found 71-year-old Sarah Brown dead from a gunshot wound.
During his arraignment, Brown requested to represent himself, but was appointed an attorney who said Brown has dementia.
On Wednesday, detectives say they removed multiple weapons from the house.
Riverhead police would not comment on the case or how many guns were pulled out of the home.
Brown is facing second-degree murder charges.  He is being held without bail.
The judge ordered a mental health examination while he is in custody.
