Family and friends have created a GoFundMe to help cover the medical costs of three boys who were hit by a car while crossing Sunrise Highway.
Family friend Melissa Landro says the boys, from Copiague, are still struggling to make a full recovery after they were struck by the car and critically injured.
As News 12 reported, the boys, ages 13, 12 and 9, were crossing Sunrise Highway in Copiague at 4 a.m. on July 31 when a car hit them.
Two of the boys, Jose L. Lopez and Jose E. Lopez, are brothers. The third boy, Louis Tejada, is their cousin.
The driver remained at the scene, and no charges were filed. Friends say Louis suffered multiple broken bones and has since been released from the hospital.
They say the Lopez brothers suffered massive injuries and remain hospitalized.
Landro says the boys' mother has been keeping vigil by their bedside at Good Samaritan Hospital every day since the accident.
Family and friends say the Lopez family needs money to help pay for the boys' rehab and their siblings’ school supplies.
Landro says any amount people can donate will help give the family peace of mind.
