Commack approved a proposal that would allow Long Island University to lease 6 acres of property to create a veterinary school.
Some residents explained at a board meeting on Thursday that they are upset with how the Commack School District is handling the Marion Carll Farm off Commack Road.
The school district says all of the plans are aligned with Mrs. Marion Carll's wishes she set forth in her will when she left the property to the district.
"We are trying to do our best to manage this property in a way that both benefits our children - benefits the community and preserves the intent of Marion Carll even though we have no legal obligation to do so," says Jarrett Behar, Commack School Board of Education vice president.
The school district says it hopes to have field trips to the property and also provide gardening and bee-keeping opportunities for students when the farm opens.
