10-year-old from Islip raises over $10K for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital

An Islip child was honored Tuesday for donating thousands of dollars from his lemonade stand to help other children battling cancer.
Oliver Rivadenerya, 10, raised more than $10,000 selling lemonade. He donated all of the money to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
"If you went back, got a time machine and told me this would happen in the next five years, I would think you're crazy and go play my Wii and starting playing "Skylanders" or something," Rivadenerya said.
The student has been selling lemonade since he was five for just one day a year.
Rivadenerya's mother, Nancy Merino, says that he was inspired by something he say on television.
"Seeing a commercial for St. Jude's on TV when he was with his grandmother one day and says 'I wanna help those kids I saw on TV,'" Merino said.
In the stand's fifth year, Oliver says he raised nearly $4,000 in one day and that he'll do it again next year.
Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter says, "Oliver is a shining example of the goodness here in the Town of Islip."
