Part of Jericho Turnpike to be renamed for FDNY firefighter killed in Iraq

A portion of Jericho Turnpike will be renamed this Saturday to honor an FDNY firefighter who was killed in Iraq.

FDNY Lt. Christopher Raguso, of Commack, was killed in a helicopter crash while serving with the 106th Air Rescue Wing last March. He left behind a wife and two young daughters.

Tens of thousands of mourners paid their respects at his funeral. His life and service have been honored with ceremonies across Long Island.

Saturday’s ceremony will take place at the Commack Fire Department headquarters at 10 a.m. Jericho Turnpike will be closed to traffic from Elwood Road to Commack Road during the ceremony.

The road will then be officially renamed ‘The Lt. Christopher J. Raguso Memorial Highway.’
