Police: Motorcyclist dies in Wyandanch collision

WYANDANCH -

A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with an SUV in Wyandanch on Sunday, police say.

Police say it happened at the intersection of South 24th Street and Straight Path near Martin Luther King Junior Elementary around 5:30 p.m.

They say Diane King was traveling northbound in her Nissan, trying to turn left onto South 24th Street when she collided with motorcyclist Martin Newkirk, of Wyandanch.

Newkirk was later pronounced dead.

King and a passenger in her SUV were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening.
