Fire breaks out at sanitation yard in Merrick

A fire broke out at the Town of Hempstead sanitation yard in Merrick Sunday morning.
The sanitation yard is located on Merrick Road in Merrick.
Fire officials say they had a difficult time with the hydrants on the town property, due to virtually no water pressure. Crews had to lay nearly 1,000 yards of hose to the hydrants on the main streets to pump water to the fire trucks. Fire officials say it is not the first time they have had trouble with low water pressure at the town sanitation yard.
News 12 is told the Merrick Fire Department, along with the North Merrick and Bellmore fire departments responded by 8 a.m. The fire was extinguished by 10 a.m.
No one was injured. The cause of the blaze is unknown.
