Officials are taking steps to make Suffolk's beaches more accessible to people with disabilities.

Officials are taking steps to make Suffolk's beaches more accessible to people with disabilities.
They include the installation of mobility mats placed at all county beaches are part of the upgrades designed to make county parks, beaches and golf courses more accessible to everyone.
The county also has installed six beach wheelchairs in which two are available at each of the county beaches.
Golfers who are disabled can also use the county's specialized golf cart. It has a feature that helps bring its passenger to an upright position.
This initiative is part of a $2 million project to help people with disabilities in the county.
Veterans can use the beach wheelchairs and the golf cart for free while others are charged a small fee to rent.
