A dead humpback whale is inching closer to land.
Initial reports stated the dead whale was six miles off the coast of Montauk on Wednesday.
It has since floated closer.
The Atlantic Marine Conservation Society is working with the Coast Guard and East Hampton Town Police to secure the whale.
They plan to move the deceased whale to a secure location - closer to shore. The goal is to examine the whale and determine how it died.
