Anyone under the age of 18 years old will see changes in their social media feeds today.

Minors will be unable to see posts about alcohol, tobacco or e-cigarettes on Facebook and Instagram.

A spokesperson says the policy comes in attempt to prohibit the private sales, trades, transfers of, or gifting of alcohol and tobacco products on Facebook and Instagram.

The policy also applies to Facebook groups created to sell the products.

A spokesperson says the new policy has been in the works for a while and is unrelated to this week's congressional hearings on “the youth nicotine epidemic.”
