DEER PARK -

A man is being treated for serious injuries after crashing his car into a tree on the front lawn of a Deer Park home, police say.

News 12 is told that the crash happened around 1:30 a.m. on Liberty Street, off Deer Park Avenue.

The road was closed for several hours while police worked to clear the scene and investigate the crash.

A neighbor tells News 12 that he heard what sounded like an explosion before stepping outside to find the driver unconscious, pinned behind the steering wheel.

Police say the 21-year-old driver was rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he is being treated for serious, life-threatening injuries.

No further injuries have been reported.
