Town of Hempstead office closed due to bed bug infestation

An office in Town of Hempstead is now closed following a bed bug infestation.
Employees first spotted the bed bugs on Wednesday.
Since then, workers have found dozens of them inside the office at 200 North Franklin St.
News 12 cameras caught the bed bugs on chairs outside the office.
Tax Receiver Don Clavin says the office was closed to employees and the public without explanation.
The town issued a statement, which reads in part, "This administration does not believe in scaring the public and will continue following all appropriate protocols and procedures relating to bed bugs."
They also accused Clavin of attempting to use this incident to get his name in the media, as he campaigns for town supervisor.
