OLD BETHPAGE -

Family members are grieving the sudden loss of a 22-year-old man who was fatally shot in Old Bethpage Saturday night.

The family says Stefon Pierre was shot at Haypath Road Park.

Police confirm that homicide detectives are investigating an "incident" that happened at the park around 11 p.m., but have not yet released further details.

Pierre's family tells News 12 that he was shot in the stomach while at the park with a group of friends. They say his friends took him to the hospital, where he later died.

Pierre's father, James Pierre, tells News 12 that that the last time he saw his son was at a barbecue on July 4. Now loved ones are faced with his sudden loss.

"My brother, I wouldn't even expect it," says Isaiah Pierre, the victim's brother. "He's so young, he didn't even touch 23 yet."

Pierre's family say they don't have many details yet about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
