This year's annual Southampton Fourth of July parade could be the village's last.

The event has been a tradition for decades, but organizers say they're worried about how they'll keep paying for the parade, which is entirely funded by donations.

"Our donations have not come in as they have in past years over the last two years," said Robert Grisnik, of the Commission on Veterans Patriotic Events. "And we're a little concerned about that because we want to continue having the parade we have always had."

Grisnik says it costs about $40,000 to pay for all the floats, bands and parade marchers. The village came up about $6,000 short two years ago.

Volunteers were along the parade route collecting donations to help the future of the parade.

"It seems like such a no-brainer to make this thing happen," said Joshua Perl.

Officials say the total number of donations this year hasn't been counted yet.

Organizers are considering holding a special fundraiser for the parade if donations remain low.
