Selden animal hospital euthanizes abandoned dog that was found wounded, emaciated

SELDEN -

An abandoned dog was found outside of a Selden animal hospital in such poor condition that it had to be euthanized.

Chief Roy Gross of the Suffolk SPCA says that a hospital worker found the Cane Corso behind the Middle Country Animal Hospital around 6 a.m. last Tuesday. Gross says the dog didn't have a leash on, and her severely wounded leg made it almost impossible for her to walk.

Gross says that he believes the dog’s emaciation and wound are the result of long-term negligence.

“We're trying to determine who is responsible for this heinous act of animal cruelty,” he says.

Gross tells News 12 that the animal hospital lured the dog, which appeared to be very nervous, with treats.

But hospital workers say that the dog was in such bad shape that she had to be euthanized.

Gross says the dog’s owners had plenty of other options if they couldn't care for her anymore, including bringing her to a shelter, calling a rescue group or the SPCA.

The Suffolk SPCA is offering a $2,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest in this case.

Anyone with information is asked to call 631-382-SPCA. All calls are confidential.
