ELMONT -

The Islanders expect to break ground soon on their new arena at Belmont raceway.

Islanders co-owner Jon Ledecky did not give a specific date, but told Newsday they will begin work in the coming weeks.

The environmental impact statement is expected to be released later than expected, sometime next month.

However, officials don't think it will delay construction.

The arena is expected to be ready by 2021.
